The Ten Most Common Misconceptions About Revelation
Knowing these ten most common misconceptions about the Book of Revelation can help protect you from false end-time teaching.
1. IT’S NOT ABOUT SATAN!
REVELATION IS THE PERSONAL TESTIMONY OF JESUS CHRIST
Hand-delivered to His beloved, the Book of Revelation is the only testimony ever written by our Saviour about himself. His personal testimony is absolutely beautiful! It was never intended to be a horror story; what a terrible insult to his sacrificial love. Confirmed by his Father and witnessed by the Spirit, this testimony is a royal decree. No one has the authority to add to or take from what is declared in a royal document. Christ asked John to write down his testimony as a blessing to bring comfort and encouragement to the love of his life, his bride. That’s precisely what it does!
I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony. (Rev.22:16)
2. IT’S NOT COMPLICATED OR CONFUSING!
REVELATION IS A BOOK OF TREMENDOUS BLESSING
The wonderful Book of Revelation is written like a story with an unchanging plot. Over time people have tried to ‘add’ things to the plot, and when they do it brings confusion. Things like, an abomination, a human Antichrist world-ruler, and a rapture have been ‘added’ and so clash with the true message. When we don't 'add' anything or 'take' anything away, the original plot becomes easy to see, and its blessings reveal themselves. The Book of Revelation is not complicated, it's beautiful; filled with love and so simple it can be understood by a child, In fact, that's one of the blessings!
Blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, for the time is near. (Rev.1:3)
3. IT’S NOT A HORROR STORY!
REVELATION EXPLAINS THE GLORIOUS EFFECTS OF CALVARY
Christ’s powerful testimony gives us a unique glimpse into the way things changed after he was raised from the dead. No other book of the Bible can do this. It tells us why he is titled 'Alpha and Omega' and 'King of Kings', how he is honoured in Heaven for enduring Calvary, what will happen to God’s enemies, how he will protect his beloved bride during tribulation and all the rewards he will lavish on her in their new kingdom. It is a glorious vision of hope, victory, honour and vindication wrapped in unshakable love.
Do not be afraid. I am the Living One. I was dead, and now look, I am alive forever and ever! (Rev.1:17-18)
4. IT’S NOT FRIGHTENING!
REVELATION CONTAINS THE GREATEST HOPE THE WORLD CAN KNOW
The unchanged plot of Revelation, in its most simple form, reads like this. The hero rides a white horse as he battles a dragon, two ugly beasts, three deceiving frogs, and a thoroughly wicked queen. After a long battle, he emerges as the victor, returns to collect his beloved bride, and takes her with him to his Father’s kingdom. Amid the jubilation of his victory feast, they marry and begin their happily ever after future! The plot of Revelation is so simple it can be taught to a child, and in fact, has been for centuries. The original message of Revelation, authorised by God himself, endures the test of time because the hope of Salvation is the greatest story that will ever be told.
Suffer the children to come to me, forbid them not for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. (Matt.19:14)
5. EVEN 666 GLORIFIES CHRIST!
REVELATION’S IMAGES ARE GIVEN TO US BY GOD
The spectacular hero of Revelation, who overcomes Satan's schemes time and time again, explains his victory through parables. Every image in Revelation shows how he has overcome Satan; each one is a sparkling jewel of his achievement, and that includes the two beasts and the number 666. These images are not frightening; this is Christ’s testimony, written to glorify him! For example, 666 can only be understood by using Godly wisdom; and who is the wisdom of God, but Christ. So when 666 is looked at through the Salvation of Christ, its meaning becomes easy to see.
If anyone has wisdom, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man’s number. His number is 666. (Rev.13:18)
6. SATAN IS UNDER CHRIST’S FEET!
REVELATION PLACES ALL GOD’S ENEMIES UNDER CHRIST’S FEET
The mighty King of Kings has conquered. His glory fills the pages of Revelation. His enemies are placed firmly under his feet by God. There is absolutely no wriggle room! There is no victory at all for Satan in the Book of Revelation. The whole book exists to show how Satan has been beaten at every turn, how all his evil schemes come to nothing and how he and all those who stand with him will be permanently placed under the feet of Christ, forever. Having Satan under his feet is the reward God promised Christ for his sacrifice at Calvary. God will not break his promise to his Son.
Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet. (Luke 20:43)
7. SATAN DOES NOT BRING TRIBULATION!
REVELATION SHOWS WHO BRINGS THE END-TIME JUDGMENTS
It is impossible for Satan to bring the end-time plague, famine and sword judgments of God to the world! Nowhere in Revelation does it say Satan will bring end-time judgment! What it does say is that he can’t! Jesus is the only one found worthy, because of his sacrifice at Calvary, to open the Scroll of Judgment! All the end-time ‘tribulation/judgments’ come from his hand. In order to promote the myth that Satan’s human antichrist figure will bring a time of end-time ‘tribulation/judgment’ (havoc) to the world, all of Chapter 5 of Revelation needs to be removed from Scripture!
Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain and with your blood you purchased people to serve our God! (All Rev.5)
8. THERE IS NO HUMAN ANTICHRIST RULER!
REVELATION NAMES THE LAST DAYS ‘RULER OF THE NATIONS’
There is no human antichrist world ruler mentioned anywhere in the Book of Revelation. The word ‘antichrist’ can't be found at all! But there is a ruler of the nations. In the first chapter, John introduces Christ as ‘ruler of the kings of the earth' (Rev.1:5). In order to 'add' a human antichrist, one-world-government/world-ruler person to end-time teaching, every reference to Christ being made ‘Ruler over the kings of the Earth’ and it’s shorter form, ‘King of kings’ must be removed from the Book of Revelation. We either believe a human antichrist rules over all the kingdoms of the earth or Christ rules over all the kingdoms of the earth. We can't believe both!
The kingdom of the world has become the Kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign forever and ever. (Rev.11:15)
9. THERE IS NO REBUILT TEMPLE!
REVELATION REVEALS A NEW AND GLORIOUS TEMPLE
There will never be any greater abomination than the killing of the creator of all things. Yet, nearly 2000 years ago, the orders for the death of Christ came from the highest authority within God’s own rebuilt Temple in Jerusalem. Further, as the Holy Land was ruled by Rome at that time, Christ fulfilled Scripture by being ‘lifted up’ in crucifixion; a Roman torture. These two combined circumstances completely fulfilled the prophecy of Daniel in Jesus’ time. There is no rebuilding of any temple or an abomination ruling in any temple in the Book of Revelation. The only new temple mentioned in Revelation is the New Jerusalem, a temple not made by human hands, the eternal dwelling place of God.
I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. (Rev.21:22)
10. THERE IS NO NEED OF RAPTURE!
REVELATION SHOWS HOW POWERFULLY CHRIST’S BRIDE IS PROTECTED
There is no rapture in Revelation, but there is strong protection! Christ’s testimony starts with seven warnings and rewards laid out in seven letters to his bride. These letters explain that Christ has commissioned his angels to watch over his bride, and has sent his Spirit to empower us to live in victory as we go through the inevitable ‘tribulation/judgment’ of the last days. Satan can never stop the angels of God or the Spirit of God from protecting us. Neither can Satan resist the power and effect of the blood of Christ, the name of Christ or our testimony to Christ. These are unassailable protections. Living in them will keep us safe until the last day; the day of Christ’s return.
They overcame by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony; and they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. (Rev.12:11)

The whole end-time mythology is a smokescreen to stop us from seeing the truth and beauty of Christ revealed so powerfully in his Book of Revelation.
Consider these questions:
How does the judgment in Revelation reflect the judgment on Christ at Calvary?
Who are the three frogs who lead all the kings of the world to Armageddon?
Why are the seven ‘lion’ heads of the beast on a ‘leopard’ body with ‘bear’ feet?
What control do the ‘four living creatures’ have over the four horsemen?
How does the number 666 reveal Christ’s victory over Satan?
Why are four chapters dedicated to the wicked queen of Babylon? Who is she?
This is what we should be thinking about, not a non-existent human Antichrist!
